Miró, Joan

Joan Miró is undoubtedly one of the most recognized artists worldwide. His work is characterized by an explosion of colors and an exceptional and unique personality in the world.

Biography of Joan Miró: Joan Miró i Ferré (Barcelona, April 20, 1893 - Palma, December 25, 1983) was a Catalan painter, sculptor, engraver and ceramist, considered one of the greatest representatives of surrealism.

His work reflects his interest in the subconscious, in the "childlike" spirit and in his country. At the beginning, Miró showed strong influences of fovism, cubism and expressionism, evolving towards a flat painting, with a certain naïf air, as can be seen in his best known work La masía (1920).

After his stay in Paris, his work became more dreamlike, aligning himself with the guidelines of surrealism and becoming part of this movement.

One of his greatest projects was the creation of the Joan Miró Foundation, founded in 1975 and located in Barcelona. This cultural and artistic center aimed to disseminate new trends in contemporary art, and was constituted with a large collection of works donated by the author.

An important collection of his work is also preserved in the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation in Palma de Mallorca, the MNAM in Paris and the MOMA in New York.
