CARLOS PAZOS BIOGRAPHY

Barcelona, 1949

Carlos Pazos is an ironic, critical and original artist, whose work brings together a strong poetic charge and kitsch aesthetics, often making reference to childhood and times gone by.

He studied architecture and painting at the Eina School in Barcelona.

His works make constant reference to childhood and past times, while combining a strong poetic charge with an innocent and kitsch aesthetic. In them, Pazos makes protagonists of objects and images that he accumulates and mixes. The titles of the works function as semantic games with the elements that compose them, reinforcing the conceptual charge of the pieces through the inference of these elements.

The artist plays, reinterprets and transforms ironically. In this sense, it is interesting to recall Pazos' statements when he received the National Plastic Arts Award in 2004, in which he said: "For me, life is a collage. I cut and paste it in the same way I do with images or objects. I like collage because it is a fast, direct and less prejudiced language. Besides, I think that we keep filling the world with new objects and images, and that we are unable to see the moment".

In Carlos Pazos' work it is almost impossible to separate his facet as an artist from his facet as a collector of objects.
