Roca Sastre, Josep

BIOGRAPHY OF JOSEP ROCA SASTRE:
(Terrassa, 1928 - Barcelona, 1997)

A painter with a great mastery of perspective, Roca Sastre frequents the studio of Ramon Rogent. Between 1954 and 1956 he moved to Paris on a scholarship from the French government where he attended the Académie La Grande Chaumierie de Montparnasse.

He was awarded a prize at the Biennal Hispanoamericana and in 1955 he had his first individual exhibition at the Galeries Laietanes in Barcelona. From that moment on he began his exhibitions at the Sala Pares in Barcelona, Cadaqués, Madrid, Bilbao, etc.

Roca Sastre won the Sant Jordi Prize from the Diputació de Barcelona, as well as receiving the Medalla Vilaltella de Lleida, the Medal of Honor from the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris in 1968 and the March Foundation scholarship in 1969.

A friend of Ramon Rogent and Miquel Villà, Roca Sastre devoted himself mainly to depicting urban landscapes of Barcelona's Eixample and Cadaqués.
