Villà, Miquel
"BIOGRAPHY OF MIQUEL VILLA:
Barcelona, 1901-1988
Miquel Villa is recognized as one of the main representatives of Spanish Fauvism.
At the age of 13, his father, a wine merchant, took him with him to Colombia (Bogota). There, he attended the School of Fine Arts until 1918. In 1920, he discovered Paris, which would become his habitual residence until 1930. During his stay in Paris, he was a student at the Colarossi Academy and established friendships with figures such as Jean Fautrier, Marcel Duchamp, Togores, Pancho Cossío and the sculptor Gargallo. His main influences came from Cézanne and, early in his career, Maurice de Vlaminck. In addition, Villà also received notable influences from Rembrandt's last period.
From 1930, he established his residence mainly in Catalonia, living in places such as Barcelona, Masnou, Pobla de Segur and spending time in Ibiza.
In 1985, Miquel Vila was distinguished by the Generalitat de Catalunya with the Creu de Sant Jordi".
